As you and your family are preparing for Holy Week and your celebration of Easter, I’d like you to consider taking a pilgrimage to several different Catholic Churches in the area to visit and pray at their altar of repose. Fr. Joe suggested this in a homily several years ago and last year my family and I took time after the Holy Thursday Mass to visit 3 churches in the area to spend a few minutes in prayer at the altar of repose. The experience really added to our preparation of Easter as a family. It also gave us an
opportunity as a family to see different parishes which we had not been to before and to see the parish's customs.
The custom to make a pilgrimage began in Rome with visiting the seven basilicas of the city on Holy Thursday. The Holy Thursday pilgrimage reflects the seven stops or “stations” during the night of Jesus’ arrest. I hope this is something you and your family will consider adding to your Triduum experience. My family has already been talking about and planning which parishes we are going to visit this year.
Fish Fry a Huge Success!
Thank you to everyone who helped with the KC Fish Fry on March 31 by either providing a dessert, working a shift, or enjoying a meal with your family. The Knights of Columbus were very appreciative of everything we did. They served almost 1,200 people with a record of 300 in the drive thru service. Thanks again to everyone who participated.
This week I received a letter in the mail from the Respect for Life Apostolate letting the school know that two of our eighth grade students are finalists in the Creative Writing Contest they sponsor each year. The finalists from our school are Meredith Obermark & Grant Kandlbinder. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 3 at the Cardinal Rigali Center. Congratulations Meredith & Grant on being named finalists!
Just a reminder there is no school April 13 – April 23 for Easter break, and so the teachers can attend the National Catholic Education Association Conference in St. Louis.
